Two ways of drawing the houses

Most modern chart calculators divide the sky into houses using your exact birth time and location, down to the minute. The houses come out as unequal slices, and a single sign can end up split across two of them, with the cusp landing partway through.

This site uses an older approach. Each house gets exactly one sign, starting with your rising sign in the first house and moving one sign at a time around the wheel. Here’s how that sequence works.

Both are real systems with long histories. They are just answering slightly different questions.

Why this site uses the older one

Annual profections were built around the simpler version. The technique comes from a time when one sign meant one house, full stop. Astrologers like Vettius Valens were working this way for the techniques we are using today.

The more modern, divided houses would not break profections exactly, but they would blur the picture the technique was designed to give. One sign, one house, keeps the cycle clean. Twelve houses, twelve signs, twelve years.

What this means for your result

If your rising sign sits early in its sign, the two systems often land close to each other anyway. If it sits late, your tenth house might fall in a different sign elsewhere than it does here.
